Lunar is a summer research fellowship for undergraduates.
We pay students $5,000–$10,000 to spend a summer in a university lab working on problems that won't pay off for decades.
What we believe
- Some of the most important science has no business case.
- It still gets done in university labs, on money that keeps getting tighter.
- Undergraduate research is often unpaid, which decides who gets to do it.
What we fund
Clean power. Aging biology. Long-horizon neuroscience. [Fourth field, if there is one.]
Neglected fields, not contrarian ones — labs doing conventional science toward a distant goal.
The fellowship
Fellows spend [10 weeks] in a lab of their choosing, paid directly. You don't need a placement when you apply. Most fellows find one afterwards, which is a much easier conversation with funding already in hand.
Open to enrolled undergraduates in any science, engineering, math or computing field. No transcripts, no test scores, no faculty signature.
